Turtle Conservation Program

Delcanto an eco-friendly development, carries out a Turtle Conservation Program to keep safe and preserve the habitat of the sea turtle from its arrival, and thus contributing to the protection of Olive ridley sea turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea) and Leatherback sea turtle (Dermochelys coriacea); therefore, Delcanto's beach becomes an alternative for the activities of the Sea Turtle Protection and Conservation Center "Nuevo Vallarta", belonging to CONANP (COMISIÓN NACIONAL DE ÁREAS NATURALES PROTEGIDAS). This program also includes conservation education activities, like the installation and operation of the Interpretive-for-Conservation Museum, where the topic is the sea turtle.

Objectives:
  • To recover turtle populations nesting in Nuevo Vallarta by developing route surveillance activities, and by collecting nests and incubation to help restore the number of turtles and strengthen these endangered species.
  • To implement an incubation yard to increase the already available space for collected nests, taken care by the staff of CPCTM (Centro para la Protección y la Conservación de la Tortuga Marina).
  • To perform symbolic releases for educational purposes on Delcanto beach.
